Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today applauded the Senate confirmation of William P. "Bill" Barr to serve as U.S. attorney general and lead the U.S. Department of Justice. Barr was confirmed by a vote of 54-45.

"Bill Barr is quite possibly one of the most qualified nominees for attorney general in history, and I trust him to lead the Department of Justice with independence and professionalism," said Isakson. "His history of service throughout his legal career and in the Central Intelligence Agency as well as his prior distinguished leadership of the Department of Justice under President George H.W. Bush will serve him well as he reassumes this position. I look forward to working with Attorney General Barr on key law enforcement priorities, including combating human trafficking and the opioid epidemic."

Isakson and Barr met formally on Feb. 6 to discuss Barr's background in the role and plans for the department.

Barr's confirmation hearing was held Jan. 15 and 16, and the Senate Committee on the Judiciary voted to advance his nomination to the full Senate on Feb. 7.
